From 18th to 25th September 2011, The Maldives will be hosting the first ever international beach
games tournament. With its natural pristine beauty, the unique combination of
turquoise water, white powder like sand, lush tropical islands and excellent
facilities The Maldives has the best environment in the world for this event.
The Maldives Olympic
Committee is currently in negotiations with 92 countries for the event that
includes 10 disciplines: Beach volleyball, Beach
Soccer, Body Building, Surfing, Open Water Swimming, Kabaddi, Beach Cricket,
Triathlon, Rowing and Wind Surfing. The slogan for the event is appropriately,
"Beat the Beach!"

The events will take place at 9
different beautiful beach venues across the country bringing together resorts,
the local community, competitors from around the world and thousands of
visitors and spectators in this inaugural event.
Earlier this month, Sanath
Jayasuriya, a Sri Lankan cricketer famed as the only player to have scored
above 13,000 runs and capture above 300 wickets in One Day International
cricket, launched the Maldives International Beach Games.
