    Maldives participates at BITE in Beijing, China

    Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) together with Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators (MATATO) participated at Beijing International Travel Expo (BITE) which was held from 17 – 19 June 2011 at Beijing, China. The Maldives delegation comprises of 13 delegations from 11 organisations, namely MMPRC, MATATO, resorts and tour operators that participated in BITE 2011 under the Maldives’ banner.  The delegation breakdown consists of 2 resorts and 7 travel & tour operators. 

    Beijing International Tourism Expo, known as BITE returns to the global stage for its eighth edition from 17 – 19 June 2011. Staged at a new venue – the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) which was also used as a communications center during the 2008 Olympic games. According to the organizers BITE has proven its credibility as a platform for networking opportunities and business discussions across the Asia Pacific region, committed to presenting the highest quality of exhibitors, buyers and visitors across the region.

    The main objective of taking part in BITE is to promote the Maldives in a different city of China. Managing Director, Mr. Simon Hawkins attended the show on behalf of MMPRC. Interviews regarding Maldives were given to radio channel FM 86.7 and to daily newspaper China Business Daily and Travel Trade Gazette China. 

    During Mr. Hawkins visit to Beijing, he met with the Ambassador of Maldives to China, Hon. Ahmed Latheef and discussed about the possible collaboration with the High Commission and MMPRC to promote the Maldives in China.

    China has taken the number one place in terms of arrival since August 2010. In 2010, a total of 118,961 tourists from the China and Hong Kong visited the Maldives which is 96.1% increase compared to 2009 and 15% of market share.  The first four months of this year records a total of 10,165 travellers from China and Hong Kong visiting Maldives, signifying an increase of 44% compared to the corresponding period in 2010.
