    Maldives hosts media familiarisation Tour jointly with Tiger Air

    Maldives is currently hosting a media familiarisation tour targeting the Singapore main stream media from 11 – 15 June 2014.  Coordinated by the Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation jointly with Tiger Air, the main objective of the fam trip is for journalists to experience the product on first hand in order to get positive editorial publicity about the destination and raise awareness focusing on the destination tourism product as well as to boost arrivals from Singapore and Southeast Asia region.  Under the PR theme “Maldives as a luxury and affordable destination”, the journalists are being hosted by Meeru Island Resort and Spa, Sonevafushi Island Resort and Dusit Thani Maldives.   

    Officials of MMPRC met with the journalists and presented on the destination highlighting on the future developments of Maldives tourism industry, specifically on the mid-market tourism development and shared the destination’s marketing strategy for Southeast Asia. 

    The group consists of journalists from Today, iweekly and u weekly from Singapore and Sin Chew Daily news from Malaysia as well as Tiger Air.  

    TODAY is Singapore’s second most-read newspaper offering quality content in a convenient and compact format. The free newspaper offers readers an unrivalled package of the top local and international news reports, as well as insightful, thought-provoking commentary and analysis. Daily circulation of TODAY is 300,000 copies. 

    i-WEEKLY isone of Singapore’s best read Chinese-language weekly magazines for the past three decade. With a 2-in-1 value-for-money delight each week, insider scoops on local and regional stars, TV and movie updates, the latest in lifestyle trends, hotspots, malls and restaurants are highlighted in this Chinese-language weekly. The Weekly circulation is estimated at 125,000 copies.

    U-WEEKLY is Singapore's first hybrid entertainment, lifestyle and social news magazine with a weekly circulation estimated at 300,000 copies. 

    Sin Chew Daily News (Malaysia) is the most widely read Chinese (paid) newspaper in Malaysia.  Maldives coverage from the trip will be featured in their Sunday lifestyle column. Sin Chew Daily News has an average daily circulation estimated at 500,000 copies.  More than 1.18 million Malaysians read the newspaper.

    Tiger Air launched its operations to the Maldives in January 2013 with connections direct to Singapore 4 times a week.  The establishment of these new connections will be a driving force in boosting traffic to the destination from Singapore and feeder markets.  

    This year there were 15,975 arrivals to the Maldives from Southeast Asia (January-April), an increase of 67.5 percent compared to the same period in 2013.  The Southeast Asian market shares 3.7 percent of arrivals to the Maldives (January-April).
