A group of seven journalists representing various media targeting the Italian travel trade and luxury market visited the Maldives from 18-25 July 2012. This group consists of journalists from travel, tourism, fashion and lifestyle magazines, online magazines and a major radio station in Italy, RAI One. The media fam trip was coordinated by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation in association with Master Consulting, Italy.
The main purpose of arranging such media fam trips is for journalists to experience the product first hand in order to get positive editorial publicity about the destination and raise awareness focusing on the destination tourism product. The hosting resorts for the fam trip are Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa (Gaafu Alifeu Atoll) and Zitahli Kudafunafaru (Noonu Atoll).
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture Mr. Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal also met with the journalists and gave information highlighting the future developments of Maldives tourism industry, and shared the marketing strategy for Italian Market.
By the end of June 2012 Italy recorded a total of 36,521 visitors to Maldives. The Italian market is the hardest hit market for Maldives due to economic crisis in Italy with a decline by 27.4 percent. Such media visits help Maldives to strengthen the positive image of the destination as well as to boost the arrivals from Italy.
