As part of the resort’s commitment to serve as a good steward of the environment, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa, Maldives, celebrated World Tourism Week with two outdoor cleaning activities in Feydhoo, local neighbouring island, and in Villingili, the resort’s island, on 1 and 2 October 2010.

Forty volunteers from the resort, the local community and local businesses gathered in Feydhoo Island for the two-hour long activity dedicated to clear the field of a soon-to-become leisure park for the local community. On the following day, guests were invited to join the resort’s employees in the celebrations with a house reef cleaning adventure. The activities aimed to increase the awareness of the local community and employees about the importance of protecting the natural surroundings for a better quality of life.
