    Maldives participated in ‘Feria Internacional de Turismo’ (FITUR) 2013



    Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) together with representatives from Maldives Tourism Industry participated in ‘Feria Internacional de Turismo’ (FITUR) 2013, the travel fair which took place in Madrid, Spain from 30th January to 3rd February 2013. MMPRC together with 15 representatives from 8 companies took part in the exhibition.

    It has drawn the attention of people in the tourism industry worldwide. As an annual event, it is held every year in Madrid, Spain. A total of 8,979 companies representing 167 countries and regions, together with all of the Spanish Regions, presented the best side of the international tourist industry; it was held at Feria de Madrid within the framework of the 33rd staging of the International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2013. Over 210,000 people attended FITUR this year.

    This show, which is organised by IFEMA serve as the first tourism event of the year on the international trade fair calendar, will take place at an especially opportune time when it comes to gauging the current state of an industry that, according to figures furnished by the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), witnessed some 1,000 million travellers throughout the world in 2012.

    The Maldives delegation lead by the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Tourism Arts and culture Mohamed Maleeh Jamal met with the Spanish Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism Honourable Dr.Jose Manuel Soria Lopez and also Asia Pacific Regional Director of UNWTO Mr. Zu Jing at the UNWTO head quarters. During the meeting Deputy Minister thanked UNWTO for their support and assistance to the Maldives. Discussions were also held regarding the upcoming World Tourism Day celebrations in the Maldives.

    Maldives delegation held meetings with Spanish Travel Trade. As a result during 2013 some journalists will visit Maldives to cover the destination. Deputy Minister gave interviews to Spanish media “Channel 4” and television channel Antenna 3.


    By the end of December 2012, 8,824 tourist arrivals were recorded from Spain.
