    MALE’, Maldives; September 26, 2011  The Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together with Maldives tourism industry has participated in International French Travel Market (IFTM) Top Resa, the largest international travel and tourism trade fair held in Paris, France from 20 – 23 September 2011.

    The Maldives delegation comprises of 18 delegates from 11 organisations, namely MMPRC, resorts and tour operators that participated in IFTM 2011 under the Maldives’ banner. The delegation breakdown consists of 8 resorts/hotel chains and 3 travel & tour operators/DMCs.

    IFTM is the travel industry’s leading event for networking, doing business, innovating and keeping up to date with the market development which covers all sectors of the industry including leisure, business and events. The Maldivian delegation updated the travel trade on new developments and products in the Maldives. Participation in this annual travel market helped to strengthen the presence of Maldives in the French market as IFTM brings together the county’s buyers and sellers from every sector of the industry.

    This year marks Maldives’ 12th year of participation at the IFTM. Maldives’ continuous support for this annual event demonstrates a firm interest in the French market, which showed potential growth in the past few years.

    The Maldives stand with an area space of 54 sq. meters was prominently located at stand number N55, next to the Mauritius stand. Themed as a beach resort of the Maldives, the concept showcased the beauty of the island nation through images.

    Maldives recorded a total of 520,483 tourist arrivals during the first seven months of 2011, indicating a sign of growth of tourist to the country. It represented an increase of 18.3 percent compared to 439,864 for the same period in 2010 making a record breaking figure ever for this period.

    In 2010, a total of 54,789 tourists from the France showed a growth of 8.8 percent compared to 2009. The first seven months of this year records a total of 38,245 travellers from France visiting Maldives, signifying an increase of 14 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2010.
