    MALDIVES WINS “BEST DIVING AREA” AND “BEST DREAMING AREA” AWARD IN MARINE DIVING & BEACH RESORT FAIR 2011

    Maldives was honored to receive the two acclaimed awards at the Dive & Travel Awards 2011, at the Marine Diving & Beach Resort Fair 2011, held from 8 – 10 July 2011 in Tokyo, Japan. The two destination awards that Maldives awarded were “Best Diving Area” and “Best Dreaming Area” Award.

    Maldives won the winning title “Best Diving Area” competing among world famous diving favourites including Palau and Okinawa. Competitors include Palau and Tahiti for the award “Best Dreaming Area”.

    On behalf of the Maldives, Maldives Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, accepted the two destination awards. Ambassador Khaleel also participated in the opening ceremony of the Fair. Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Khaleel, spoke of the threats faced by coral reefs all around the world due to climate change.  He also used the opportunity to thank the Government of Japan for its exemplary leadership in the fight against climate change.

    Apart from the two destination awards received, Maldives Tourism Industry also won awards at the dive and travel awards. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island won 2nd place in “Best Dive Resort Hotel” category and the 2nd and 3rd place awards in the “Best Live aboard” category went to Blue shark II and Island Safari Royal from the Maldives.
    The Marine Diving Fair is one of the biggest diving and beach resort exhibition in Asia, the Dive & Travel Awards are chosen by the readers of the two most popular diving magazines in Japan, “Travel Diver” and “Marine Diving,” published by the Marine Art Centre of Japan.
