Male’, 10 February 2010; Maldives Tourism Promotion Board together with tourism industry participated at the BOOT fair which was held in Germany, Dusseldorf from 22nd – 30th January 2010.
This year’s 42nd annual Boot fair received 250,000 visitors, from over 61 countries that is 10,300 more than in the previous year. A total of 1,571 exhibitors from 61 countries showcased their products and services in 17 exhibition halls during the nine whole days. From Tourism industry, a number of safari operators, resorts and relevant agencies participated alongside other exhibitors.
BOOT always have been an ideal platform for the Maldives Live aboard safaris & relevant agencies. Together with MTPB, 7 companies represented Maldives this year in the BOOT fair. Safari operators, agencies and resorts who represented the Maldives were: Bandos Island Resort & Spa, Blue Horizon, Cruise Maldives Pvt. Ltd, Albatros top Boat, Static Tours Pvt. Ltd and Sun Travel & Tours.
Since dive segment proves to be a significant sector for Maldives it is crucial for well ‐ known diving destination such as Maldives to represent in the annual dive fair to help strengthen the presence of the dive products & promote dive offers to the target audience. Furthermore, for safari operators and other relevant agencies it tends to be fine opportunity to build good business relations and deals with the tour operators in there.
As previous years, Maldives Stand updated the visitors and the evermore enthusiastic tourists that visited the stand with relevant information and provided information on the packages that were offered from the representatives. These packages distributed at the stand were well received from the numerous keen visitors who visited to inquire about the package deals.
Promotional activities such as the lucky draw, proved to be a success which drew attention among a lot of potential visitors and enthusiasts. The lucky draw was organized from the MTPB as part of the promotional activities to carry out in the stand; the winner receives attractive free vacations from Bandos island resort and Spa, Albatross Top boat and Static tours.
Overall for a consumer fair it has been productive and beneficial in attracting prospective tourists for the delegation of Maldives.
At the end of 2010 Germany attracted 77,108 tourists to the Maldives which was 11.6 per cent growth compared to the figure at the end of 2009.
