The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation coordinated a familiarisation tour to the Maldives for a group of 3 journalists representing various media targeting the general consumer via daily papers covering and online magazine versions from 10 – 18 June 2012.
The main purpose of arranging such media fam trips is to bring journalists to Maldives to experience the product first hand in order to get positive editorial publicity about the destination. The group consists of a journalist from The Sun (circulation 2,624,008 ) a popular daily newspaper of UK and Hellomagazine.com (circulation 1,464,705 ) and Marieclaire.co.uk (circulation 1,000,000),which are 2 popular online lifestyle.
The theme of the fam trip was “The affordable luxury” in the Maldives. Hence, the journalists was hosted by Vilamendhoo Island Resort (South Ari Atoll) and Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort (South Male’ Atoll). They were accompanied by a representative from the Rooster Creative Ltd., the PR Agent of MMPRC for the UK market.
Due to the financial crisis in Europe and the London Olympics this year it is not excpected for the UK arrivals to increase. Hence such media visits help Maldives to strengthen the positive image of the destination to reach the destination’s target of attracting a million tourists by the end of this year.
A total of 39,999 arrivals were registered from UK by the end of May 2012.
